I was just messing around, seeing what I could do with this shape transform effect in Flash. It's decent, but kinda limiting.

The hands are done using actionscript, and if you watch closely the big hand responds energetically when it touches the little blue ball (not the big one that gets dropped). This was my failed attempt at complicated interaction between the balls and hands - it worked, but not like I wanted it to.

Ahh well, I think I'm done with this one. Here's it for you all to enjoy!

I've always hated shape tweens to be honest. Like you said, they're too limiting. The hand reaction thing was cool though. Didn't realize it until you mentioned it.

I was hoping to have the hands possibly grab and toss the balls, but the whole process turned out to be much more confusing then I expected. I might mess with it again in the future, when I know a bit more about actionscript..

I was thinking I could use effects like this for an underwater scene, for example the hands are plants instead and the 'ball' is really a hidden movie clip wave that moves across the screen, causing them to pulsate.

Who knows, could be a fun effect
